MIFUR 2015 – Milan Fair Called Positive!

89% of its usual buyers have confirmed their presence defeating some of the more pessimistic forecasts.

Positive business climate in an orderly efficient and focused Salon.

The 20th Mifur, which came to an end today in Fiera Milano, has achieved good results. The buyers of this specific sector were slightly down (-11,25%) mainly because of the predictable fall in Russian and Ukrainian businesses (-34,74% and -13,25% respectively).

“The Russians haven’t completely failed to attend – says Norberto Albertalli, Mifur President – the buyers of the luxury segment and of top-quality fashion products have nevertheless visited the Salon; they certainly had a different budget at their disposal compared to past years due to the rouble situation but that was predictable”.

10.102 visitors passed through the receptions’ turnstiles and registered to the 20th International Fur and Leather Exhibition. For the first time, after several years, the Salon has opened solo in pavillions 16 and 20 in Fiera Milano Rho without the usual company of the Mipel and The Micam Salons whose shared receptions used to guarantee Mifur about 20% additional visitors.

“We were aware we would give up on visitors coming from the other Salons and on the long-standing synergy with The Micam and Mipel in order to respect the international calendars. After assessing the reactions of our buyers in this international economic situation and despite today’s result (-11%), we can declare ourselves quite satisfied. The 2015 Mifur sector focused on its mission; I don’t think of being rhetorical when I say that in difficult times people – the entrepreneurs in this case – give their best. This is exactly what happened during the four-day exhibition. A good response in terms of attendance, together with a cautiously positive climate registered at the closing, marked the twentieth edition, confirming that Mifur is the not-to-be-missed event for those who operate in this supply chain” concluded the President.

Roberto Scarpella, President of the Associazione Italiana Pellicceria (Italian Fur Association), makes a comment on the Italian exhibitors: “Considering the Italian exibitors at Mifur, what stands out at the closing of these four business days, is the uniqueness of the Italian heritage: our businesses have a distinct creative ability which is an exclusive characteristic of ‘Made in Italy’ that is expressed by a quality offer with high stylistic contents”.

Data From the Different Markets:

Italy: the Italian market is still suffering (-9,31%) but the exhibitors confirm that visiting buyers started to buy again, in response to the interest for the products shown by the end consumers.

Europe: also Greece, France and Germany were down with an average decrease of 9%. On the contrary, Spain registered +1,12%.

Former Soviet Union countries: Russia, the reference market in this sector, continues to suffer with a decrease of 34,74% together with Ukraine (-13,25%). On the contrary, the other countries in the area responded well: Azerbaijan +26,67%, Kazakhstan +13,75%. Armenia (+20%) and Romania (+29,41%) responded well too.

United states: excellent results from the United States (+27,71%) also supported in their purchases by the favourable exchange rate USD/€.

Far East: China is still growing (+15,40%) together with a substantial increase in attendance by Japan (+31,88%). Korea on the other hand was stable.

Inside the Asian area the only negative sign was that represented by Hong Kong (-32,31%) - a market which is particularly influenced by the purchases made by Russian consumers.
