ILOE – International Luxury Outerwear Expo in Chicago was a successful event

Last week’s ILOE – 2015 in Chicago fair turned out to be a successful event. The three-day fair came at the right time and, evidently, the right place for American retailers who had just come off a relatively successful season which left them in a good open-to-buy position. Exhibitors who had the foresight to bring what the stores would want did good business and are looking forward to an even bigger version next year.

The huge facility in the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center provided not only attractive booth setups in an open, friendly atmosphere, but was adjacent to three major hotels. Vendors found the costs lower than in Montreal. For American exhibitors, it was not only the transportation and accommodations, but also the carnet and other customs-related expenses and red tape incurred by crossing the border.

ILOE was developed two years ago by four veteran exhibitors at the annual NAFFEM show in Montreal, they felt that there was a need for a fair for American retailers. They chose Chicago for its central location that would be reachable by auto by a large number of retailers, but in a modern convention center close to a major airport for those coming from longer distances and other countries. The proposal caught the fancy of other exhibitors and a large number of retailers, several of whom had already lost interest either in exhibiting or attending the venerable Montreal event.

The opening-night fashion show was a generally well received with 400 or so attendance. And the dinner and the entertainment the following evening for the benefit of the FICA – Fur Information Council of America. Comedian Ross Bennett went over well and the auction of a Blackglama bundle donated by American Legend brought $4,300 for FICA. It was bought by resident buyer Peter Nathan for a client and the garment will be manufactured by Serbos Furs, New York. Another popular diversion that evening was the Photobomb photo booth.

Overall the vendors and retailers attending to the fair found a very positive respond and enthusiastic endorsements. Retailers said they found what they were looking for in major items as well short pieces and accessories.
