Stewards of the Land and Water: Addressing Climate Change

Canada’s trappers are stewards of land, water and wildlife and they possess a vast knowledge of local wildlife and natural history. Awareness and concern across Canada about the impacts of a changing global climate have focused attention on understanding, managing and adapting to climate-induced change.

As stewards, Canada’s trappers have an important role to play in documenting and helping Canadians understand the impacts of climate change on wildlife, water and ecosystems. This Strategic Session will be co-hosted by the Fur Institute of Canada and the Government of the Northwest Territories.

Trappers, wildlife managers, government leaders and the private sector, will explore the opportunities to strengthen the stewardship role of trappers in tracking and documenting climate change impacts across the country, and in advocating for practical solutions.

The strategic sessions entitled, “Stewards of the Land and Water: Addressing Climate Change” will be held on June 24 & 25, 2016.
